About Beagle

The Beagle is a small to medium-sized hound known for its friendly, curious, and affectionate nature. With a short, dense coat—often tri-colored with black, brown, and white—long floppy ears, and expressive brown eyes, Beagles have a gentle, pleading look that melts hearts. Intelligent and playful but sometimes stubborn, they thrive in active households where they get plenty of exercise and mental stimulation. Famous for their keen sense of smell, they love scent-based games and outdoor adventures. Social and good with children and other pets, Beagles make loyal, lively, and loving companions, though their energy and occasional vocalizations mean they do best in homes that can keep up with their zest for life.

What to Avoid

Beagles should avoid a range of human foods that can be toxic or harmful to their health. Chocolate, grapes, and raisins can cause serious kidney or heart problems, while onions and garlic may lead to anemia by damaging red blood cells. Foods containing xylitol, such as sugar-free gum or candy, can trigger dangerous drops in blood sugar and liver failure. Other hazards include alcohol, caffeinated drinks, avocado, cooked bones, fatty or fried foods, and raw yeast dough, all of which can lead to vomiting, digestive issues, pancreatitis, or even life-threatening conditions. To keep a Beagle safe, it’s best to stick to dog-safe treats and a balanced diet while carefully checking ingredients for hidden toxins.
